University Library

The University Library of Trnava University in Trnava is the central library of Trnava University. It performs professional library and information activities, stores and bibliographically registers qualification theses, publications of pedagogues, scientific workers, and postgraduate students of Trnava University, and provides library and information services to students, teachers, and Trnava University employees, as well as experts. Its automated library information system, DAWINCI, represents an integrating element of the library information system of Trnava University.

Centre of Information Systems

The Centre of Information Systems (CIS) is a department dealing with information and development, and represents a part of the university organisational structure.  Its task is to secure and coordinate the development, operation, and effective use of information and communication technologies (ICT), to take part in the support of scientific, pedagogical, scientific and research, managing, information and scientific research activities of the university and its units, and also to co-operate in their rationalisation. When fulfilling its task, CIS co-operates with other university units.

Institute of History of Trnava University

The Institute of History of Trnava University is a research department which was founded on October 12, 2001. The department executes systematic research of Trnava University history sources in archives, libraries, and museums at home, as well as abroad. Research outcomes are available for the whole university academia, if interested. The Archive of Trnava University, which stores and keeps records of documents since the reestablishment of Trnava University in Trnava in 1992, forms a part of the Institute of History of Trnava University.

Typi Universitatis Tyrnaviensis

Typi Universitatis Tyrnaviensis is the name of the publishing house of Trnava University in Trnava. The publishing house was founded on April 23, 2001 by the signing of an agreement on shared department with VEDA, a publishing house of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. The task of the publishing house is the provision of publication activities which represent the university outwardly. The sale of publishing house productions are performed in the bookshops of VEDA, the publishing house of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. One of its bookshops resides also in the building of Trnava University in Trnava. (Ms Rapantová, the shop is open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, telephone: 0902 917 010).

Centre for Further Education

Characteristics of the Workplace

The Centre for Further Education (CFE) is a department of Trnava University (TU).

The CFE is focused on providing and developing continuing education and life-long learning for Slovak citizens as laid out in Act No. 568/2009 Coll., on further education, in cooperation with the faculties of TU and in accordance with their professional orientations.

The mission of the Centre for Further Education is to provide continuing education to those individuals interested in broadening their knowledge, and to generate funds with its activities to establish other sources of funding for the university.

The CFE prepares, organises, and provides continuing education in terms of S 21 (1) letter b) of Act no. 131/2002 Coll., on Higher Education, in compliance with Act no. 568/2009 Coll., on further education, the Statute of TU, and the Rules of organisation of TU. The CFE cooperates with other educational and consulting institutions and partner organisations in the field of further education (Further Education Centres at universities, the Slovak Academic Association of Further Education Centres, and the Association of Universities of the Third Age), and provides for the preparation, creation, and distribution of study and other materials. At the same time, the CFE acts as a consulting centre in the field of life-long learning at Trnava University, while cooperating closely with the faculties of TU on course preparation, training, and other educational activities.

Language Centre (LC)

The Language Centre (LC) provides continuing education and life-long learning in the field of foreign languages to both students and staff of TU and to the public. The LC's main mission is to create suitable technical, personal, material and financial conditions for the improved language proficiency of students and employees of TU.

University of the Third Age at the Trnava University in Trnava

The University of the Third Age at Trnava University in Trnava (hereinafter only "UTA at TU") offers middle-aged and retired individuals the possibility to spend their post-work years in a full way. UTA at TU makes accessible at the university level, knowledge from the scientific disciplines which students can use for their personal development and for the benefit of society. UTA at TU offers third age citizens the possibility to satisfy their desire to complete their knowledge in various fields of science, quality free time, positive social integration, and an opportunity to maintain mental and physical balance which contributes to feelings of a life fully lived.

UTA at TU began its operations in the academic year 1999/2000 in the field of theology at the Faculty of Theology in Bratislava.

It has been possible to study at UTA at TU since the academic year 2002/2003.

As of June 1, 2012, a total of 1004 students have successfully graduated from UTA at TU.

UTA at TU admission requirements are the completion of a secondary school education with school-leaving examination (maturita), over the age of 40, and payment of tuition for UTA (in each year of study). An exception from the age limit can be awarded to people in disability retirement. Studies last for 3 years. Teaching is in the form of lectures, usually 7 sessions of two hours each during the semester. The teaching of language takes place 10 times per semester, two hours each, with each lesson 45 minutes long. There are no admission exams; the Rector of the University decides on admission. Exams take place at the end of the academic year in written form.

Students obtain a certificate of graduation after completing their studies and submitting their final thesis. The certificate is awarded during the graduation ceremony in the presence of the academic officials of TU.

Fields of Study Offered at UTA at TU in the Academic Year 2012/2013

Social Work

The graduate will acquire knowledge from the history of social work, social care and the safety of youth, elderly, and severely disabled people, in the area of social inequality, social help and social care in crisis centres, in refugee camps, and in Roma communities. The graduate will become acquainted with the risks affecting quality of life, with the quality of life of clients in Social Service Centres, and with a healthy lifestyle, but also with the malicious diseases of today (HIV, AIDS).

Care for the Elderly

The graduate will acquire knowledge about the process of ageing and old age, about the characteristics of the fields of gerontology and geriatrics, about the presence and particularities of diseases in old age, with a focus on common geriatric syndromes (immobility, instability, incontinence, intellectual disorders), the concept of health care for the elderly (institutional, home, palliative and hospices), nursing care for the elderly with a focus on accommodating the needs of the elderly.  Graduates will become acquainted with ethical issues in medical and nursing care, and with methods of suitable communication with respect to the age peculiarities of the elderly.

Mentorship Didactics in Nursing

The graduate will acquire knowledge about the personal and professional characteristics of a mentor, and about the personal characteristics of students and their professional development. He/she will learn principles of appropriate communication between the mentor and the student during the teaching process. He/she will get acquainted with the basic terms of pedagogy, didactic principles of the teaching process, the structure of leading clinical practices, uses of suitable didactic methods, forms and tools, and output standards according to Bloom taxonomy. He/she will acquire knowledge about methods of student assessment through clinical practice in natural conditions.

Law

The graduate will acquire knowledge from the field of history of law, criminal, constitutional, and contractual law. He/she will become acquainted with selected areas of international and European law. Furthermore, he/she will learn about the possibilities of running a business in accordance with the Commercial Code and the Trades Act.

Work with a PC

Beginner User
The graduate shall acquire basic knowledge about the basic parts of a computer and their functions, the division of software, basics with a mouse, writing texts on the computer, an explanation of key functions on the keyboard, and the creation of a text file.

He/she will learn to work with MS WORD - writing texts, formatting texts, working with blocks of text, and inserting pictures and blocks of text. He/she will also learn to work with an inbox - with email, the Internet, digital pictures, and the Windows operating system.

Advanced User

The graduate shall acquire basic knowledge about basic parts of a computer and their functions, the division of software, and antivirus protection. He/she will complete advanced work with MS OFFICE Microsoft Word, Windows, email, and work with the Internet - searching for information, encyclopaedias on the Internet, communication via the Internet (Skype, ICQ, Facebook), and picture modification.

History of Art

In three years, the graduate will become acquainted with a chronological overview of the history of culture, art, and architecture from the oldest ancient cultures through to the period of the Middle Age, Renaissance, and Baroque, up to the present time. This overview is focused on both world and Slovak art and culture, and is enhanced with additional lectures on the issues of work with monuments and museum and gallery work. Apart from that, the graduates have the possibility to visit monuments and to see pieces of art on the spot, thanks to one-day or longer excursions.

Ancient Culture and its Heritage

Study is focused on acquiring knowledge from ancient literatures, mythology, and culture, and on grasping the knowledge of ancient history and civilisations. Lectures focus also on the heritage of antiquity in the European culture, particularly taking into consideration the reflection of antiquity in historic phases in Slovak culture. The graduate will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge about ancient erudition in a broader interdisciplinary context and has the possibility to attend expert excursions.

Holy Scripture and Systematic Philosophy

The graduate will acquire knowledge from the introduction to the study of Holy Scripture, and theology as a practical science, from the origin of the Church up to Constantine the Great, from the inner life of God, Mary the Christ's Mother, redeeming death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The graduate will become acquainted with christening, the sacrament of confirmation, confession, the sacrament of marriage, the theory of sin, and the sacrament of reconciliation.

Languages

During the three year language course of English, German and French, the graduate will acquire a basic communication level of a foreign language. He/she will learn, in gradual steps, to understand (to listen, to read), to speak (independent oral expression) and to write, and to be able to make himself/herself basically understood in countries where the respective language is used.

                JUDr. Róbert Dobrovodský, PhD., LL.M., is an employee of the Faculty of Law of Trnava University in Trnava, in the Department of Civil and Commercial Law. In the Student Support Centre he offers students legal counselling in difficult life situations that can be solved or at least mitigated with assistance - family law disputes, inheritance disputes, consumer disputes, personal protection disputes, criminal cases as the injured person, discrimination, or other life situations of the student or eventually his/her family.  

                JUDr. Róbert Dobrovodský will use his extensive experience, both practical and scientific, in providing help to victims of domestic violence, violence against women, children or the elderly, in providing support to students. In urgent cases, he will arrange for more stable care at the crisis centre of the Slovak Women's Alliance in Bratislava or at other regional crisis centres with which he has cooperated on a long term basis.

                JUDr. Viktor Križan, PhD., is an employee of the Faculty of Law of Trnava University in Trnava, in the Department of Labour Law and Social Security Law. In the Student Support Centre he offers legal counsel to students in difficult life situations that can be solved or at least mitigated with this assistance - labour law disputes, labour law - content of an employment contract or contract for work, rights and obligations, compensation for damages to the employer, etc.
